Custom Motorcycle Paint

When motorcycle comes into KC Customs we want you to feel that you are getting the best quality of work you can possible receive, We understand you are paying good hard earn money and you should expect no less then the best,

Our process is quit simple but we do take pride in what we do.
First off we inspect every item that is brought to us and give you our honest opinion,
If you have tanks and fenders from a motorcycle that you wanted painted but are un sure of how the procedure works,
We are going to explain it to you

Fist off we need to get the old paint off, how do we do that,

  1. We Media blast you old paint off using the latest technology in paint remove, basically it’s like sand blasting but without the sand, we use plastic and or crushed walnut shells. This by far is the better way to go; it will not damage or warp the metal. It’s cleaner and safe.
  2. After that process is completed we then inspect each piece vary closely for cracks and flaw’s The tank or tanks are pressured tested to insure that there is no leaks, If there is a leak or crack you are informed right away, again we will give you our honest opinion on how to proceed,
  3. The next step is to get the metal straight, It goes to our body shop for the repairs if they can they will metal finish it but in some cases body filler will have to be used,
  4. Once all the body work is completed we then metal etch the panels and apply 3 solid coats of epoxy primer to insure that there will be NO RUST. It is then baked for 60 mins @ 140 degree’s in our spray booth.
  5. After 24 hours of self time we then start the prepping process, this involves dry sanding the primer with 150 grit sand paper, followed by 320 grit sand paper then the final sanding is done in 500 grit. It is inspected for imperfections’ at that time, if it passes’s quality control it is ready for the paint department.
  6. In the paint department we then again inspect your part for imperfections to insure there is nothing wrong with the parts. We clean all parts with wax and grease remover and it is now ready to be put in the spray booth for sealer and paint.
  7. Your parts are in the booth now ready The booth is heated to 75 degree’s for several mins to get your part up to temperature, It is really important that is process happens, The paint does not like to be sprayed in the cold or in to hot of weather. The sealer we use is an epoxy sealer which we have found is the most durable sealer on the market; it has great adhesion properties for the paint to stick.
  8. Once the sealer is applied we use a semi wet process to apply the base coat color, we do not want to put it on over wet sealer this can cause little bubbles in the base coat the cause of that is from the gasses trying to escape and having the base coat trapping them. We do not want to apply the base coat color over dried sealer either this can cause poor adhesion and the base coat color will peel off.
  9. Once the base coat is applied we when apply the clear coat, If you are only after a solid paint job with out graphics we will apply 3 good coats of clear, If you are adding graphic’s we apply 2 coats of clear. It is then baked for 60 mins @ 145 degree’s
  10. Your paint job is now got color on it, It will be taking out of the spray booth and left on the shelf for 24 hours to cure.
  11. On solid color paint jobs we will then color sand it with 2000 grit sand paper and polish it to a mirror finish, undercoat the fenders and inspect it one more time for imperfections, It is now ready for you.
  12. On paint jobs that require graphics we now sand down the clear with 800 grit and start applying the graphic’s Once the graphics are applied we then un mask it and inspect it again for any imperfections before it get re-cleared to protect the graphics.
  13. 3 coats of clear is then added and baked once again at 140 degrees at 60 mins
  14. Its put on the self for 24 hours to cure,
  15. We then color sand it down one more time with 2000 grit and polish it to a mirror finish, the fenders are undercoated and it inspected once last time to make sure you are getting the best paint job you can get.
  16. It is now ready for you to enjoy for years to come.
