Custom Trucks
When it comes to trucks at KC Customs we want you to feel that you are getting the best quality of work you can possible receive, We understand you are paying good hard earn money and you should expect no less then the best,
Our process is quit simple but we do take pride in what we do.
1. What we do is wash your truck or car and inspect the panel that we are going to be working on,
2. If there is chips dents or imperfection in the panels that we are going to applying graphic’s or flames to we want you to know, we will contact you to let you know and we will fix them before any other work is to be done. (The old saying its all in the prep work) really applies here.
3. We disassemble the vehicle, Head lamps, grill door handles, mirrors, window moldings, Etc.
4. The reason for this is vary important, Listed below are some of the reasons we take the extra steps to get the job done right.
A. We do not want any over spray on these parts,
B. We make sure that all the panels are sanded completely even under the window moldings and door handle area, on a poor paint job these items are over looked and in a few months this vital area’s the paint will start to peel off because they were not sanded properly.
C. The finished product will come out much cleaner, less imperfections.
D. When we color sand and polish the clear coat, we are able to give you a uniform and flawless finish but by having the molding and hard ware on the vehicle it would be almost impossible to achieve this as we are not able to color sand and polish up to the edges,
5. We them mask and tape up you vehicles to prevent any wet sanding sludge for getting onto panels and the rest of your vehicle
If your panels are in great shape, like a new truck or car we will sand the panels with 800 grit sand paper. If your paint job on you vehicle requires pearls we will then re-sand it with 1000 grit, this will help out in the in the final steps of your vehicle. If your vehicle requires body work or if chips need to be repaired we will take the extra steps in making you old finish look like new before we begin the graphics
6. Now its time to get some graphic’s on your ride!!!!!
7. We take great pride in how we do this, every thing we do from here on out is vary important and take a lot of time and patients, every thing is done by hand, Laying the tape measuring each line to make sure the opposing side is the same, we use special tape for this so there will be not tape impression or tape residue left behind, Rarely do we ever use a razor blade on your vehicle, reason why you ask? Well we just put done a nice base coat to bring back your paint and we do not want to cut though that and create future problems because of a small cut in the base coat.
8. Now its time for your graphic colors, Some just want one color others want the world that’s OK with us we can handle it, We try to get as many colors on in the first take as we can before we reclear the vehicle,
9. Once the graphic colors are on we want to unmask it and check it for imperfections before we clear it to protect the art work, This step take a lot of time.
10. Once it’s got an OK form all the paint shop people we are ready to clear it for the first time. We spray down an adhesion promoter to get the base a little sticky and lay down 3 good coats of clear. We then bake it in the spray booth for 60 @ 145 degrees.
11. Once the vehicle is ready to come out we want it to sit for a 24 hour period to let the clear cue
12. If the graphic’s require pin striping or additional graphic’s we then re sand the clear flat with 800 grit sand paper, wash it unmask it and clean it off. Re mask it and back in the booth again for the final graphic’s or pin striping.
13. Once in the booth we will perform this procedure until the all the striping or graphic’s are done.
14. We inspect ever inch of the panels for imperfections and get it ready to re clear for the last time.
15. We add 3 good coats of clear back on top of the finish and let it bake again at 145 degrees for 60 mins,
16. Once the vehicle is ready to come out of the spray booth we then let it sit for 24 hours to let the clear cue.
17. Now its time to get the finish to shine like a mirror, we color sand each panel with 1200 grit and then go back over it with 2000 grit sand paper. We polish each panel under we get a uniform mirror finish, this process take time and major skill this is the make or break part of the process.
18. Once this is done it is washed dried and inspected, reassemble and washed again, Then we use a High gloss glaze on the paint (NOT WAX) you will want to wait for at least 2 weeks before applying a true wax to you finish Let her breath is what we say.
19. Now its time for some pictures
20. And you are ready for you vehicle, Once you pick it up we will go over everything that we did on it so you have a complete understanding on what we did.
21. Enjoy it!!!!!!!!!
